Navy and white

bedroom

Flipping through an issue of Ideal Home there was a photograph of a home office with the most incredible navy blue paint colour on the walls. I instantly needed to use this colour and after very little begging, was allowed to plan the bedroom for the new house around the colour.

Secretly my favourite thing about this board is the little bedside cabinet. It’s old fashioned but more importantly it looks like one of the naughty little cabinets in Mary Poppins that make adorable noises.

The wooden name sign was an etsy find and was my present to my husband on our wedding day. My next mission may be to visit a few junk shops to buy some old blue and white china as I continue to collect fabric for the navy and white quilt.

London calling

 hallwayboard

Even though the paperwork for the new house drags on, my decorating plans are steaming forward. Fingers crossed we’ll be able to move in a few months.

My most recent planning project for the house has been the front hallway. It’s a long thin hallway but it’s very bright. So much of the decor in the new house will be understated that we both fancy having a bit of fun in this space. We’ve decided to focus the hallway around a giant print we have of a routemaster bus. I can’t wait for my custom etsy order to arrive which will pull the whole wartime London look together.

Teacups

My beautiful best friend got married a few weeks ago. The wedding was absolutely gorgeous, and the rain which has battered England for most of July and August decided to take a break for the day and we were blessed with perfect sunshine. The ceremony was held outside at a local castle and the reception was a classic English afternoon tea party.

It’s hard to decide what my favourite moment was (other than seeing two friends so happily married) but definite highlights of the weekend were spending the days before the wedding decorating the marquee with homemade flower arrangements, organza and fabric butterflies, hanging tea lights in jam jars on the trees outside and putting out the place settings.

The favours were antique teacups sourced from boot fairs, eBay and charity shops, each one was different. The place settings were individually iced biscuits. What could be more gorgeous?

I’m planning to turn our teacups into candles to go in the spare room of the new house. In fact, since looking at all the photos from the day I’ve decided to decorate the entire room around the teacups in a floral vintage theme with a new patchwork quilt design coming together in my head to complement the cups as they sit side-by-side on the windowsill.
