Image of the day

art print by Freya Art

My new little niece Gwen Ruth was born on Sunday, weighing 7lbs 12oz. She’s adorable and has proved herself to be an angelic new baby. This lovely print by Freya Art came to mind this morning as I was thinking of my sister and her newly expanded family.

Strike

I was tragically excited to get a hat out for my journey to work this morning. Today I went for a black beret with a black and white polkadot bow. I was looking forward to the arrival of my lovely new winter boots, just in time for a day at a castle in the countryside tomorrow. I somehow missed the news of a major postal strike in the city (again) and must imagine my lovely new boots sitting sad and lonely in a postal sorting office wishing they could be stomping through grass and leaves while paired with thick black tights and a plum coloured woollen dress.

autumn birds fabric

Luckily this lovely fabric from Kathy Hall at fabricsupplies on etsy is restoring my love of autumn, and giving me all sorts of ideas for a new autumn quilt. Maybe a log cabin with autumn golds, deep reds, plums, aubergine and deep greens…

Globetrotting

 blue_marble

We’re a bit in love with this photographic decal from WilsonGraphics and are thinking it would look quite at home in the new office, surrounded by rather a lot of bookcases.

Since falling in love with the globe, which makes me think of Apollo missions and the blue marble and earth rise images, I’ve started hankering after an old fashioned globe to go on the desk. It seems there’s something very grown-up about having a globe. I’m sure my geography wont improve, but that’s what sat nav and google maps are for surely?

Navy and white

bedroom

Flipping through an issue of Ideal Home there was a photograph of a home office with the most incredible navy blue paint colour on the walls. I instantly needed to use this colour and after very little begging, was allowed to plan the bedroom for the new house around the colour.

Secretly my favourite thing about this board is the little bedside cabinet. It’s old fashioned but more importantly it looks like one of the naughty little cabinets in Mary Poppins that make adorable noises.

The wooden name sign was an etsy find and was my present to my husband on our wedding day. My next mission may be to visit a few junk shops to buy some old blue and white china as I continue to collect fabric for the navy and white quilt.

London calling

 hallwayboard

Even though the paperwork for the new house drags on, my decorating plans are steaming forward. Fingers crossed we’ll be able to move in a few months.

My most recent planning project for the house has been the front hallway. It’s a long thin hallway but it’s very bright. So much of the decor in the new house will be understated that we both fancy having a bit of fun in this space. We’ve decided to focus the hallway around a giant print we have of a routemaster bus. I can’t wait for my custom etsy order to arrive which will pull the whole wartime London look together.
