Inspiration

Well, the Ideal Home Show was utterly uninspiring. I’m glad the tickets were free! The only stall I was particularly interested in was one selling handmade wooden shutters. However the salesperson didn’t know how to open the shutters, or how many colours they came in, or anything else about the product! I’ve worked at a lot of large events and shows at Earls Court and Olympia and this was by far the most disappointing.

We had a quick wander round then promptly left for a much more inspiring stroll along Kings Road and lots of window shopping in Heals, Habitat, Zara Home and Anthropologie.

It was the first time I’d had the chance to explore the store and it’s just as gorgeous as I’d expected.  I wanted to move in, or at the very least buy some lovely china and glassware…

London calling

 hallwayboard

Even though the paperwork for the new house drags on, my decorating plans are steaming forward. Fingers crossed we’ll be able to move in a few months.

My most recent planning project for the house has been the front hallway. It’s a long thin hallway but it’s very bright. So much of the decor in the new house will be understated that we both fancy having a bit of fun in this space. We’ve decided to focus the hallway around a giant print we have of a routemaster bus. I can’t wait for my custom etsy order to arrive which will pull the whole wartime London look together.

I saw this lovely illustrated map on a greeting card last week and immediately headed over to Alice Tait’s website and fell in love with her gorgeous illustrations.

yellow cafe

The Yellow cafe at Selfridge’s in London is possibly the most yellow place I’ve ever been. As you sit drinking tea poured from yellow teapots, your face seems to glow yellow as the colour reflects from the surfaces around you. It’s a lovely little place to sit enclosed by a white picket fence, drinking tea and watching people shop around you (the cheesecake is rather good too).
